Middle Tennessee is no stranger to tornadoes, and as reported by wsmv.com, the area was once again visited by two twisters last November:

Storm damage has been reported in some parts of Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky after a line of strong and severe storms made their way through the area Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service announced on Monday that an EF-1 tornado touched down Sunday evening in Orlinda, TN. The tornado, with maximum winds between 85-90 mph, caused roof damage to several homes and also blew out several windows.

Multiple trees were snapped and uprooted along the tornado’s one-mile path, primarily along Robertson Road, with a narrow path continuing along Pleasant Hill Road.

Tornadoes are some of the most destructive storm systems this planet has to contend with, and the strongest ones can claim a good number of lives that come in their paths. To avoid casualties, experts recommend that households build a safe room where families can take shelter while a tornado rages.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has created several construction plans for various types of safe rooms, which can be found in the agency’s website. In addition to building safe rooms, it is also important for Tennessee residents to protect their roofing from tornadoes. While some claim that no one can ever build a tornado-proof home, many experts say that simple methods and techniques can strengthen a home, particularly the roof, and increase its odds of withstanding even extremely strong tornadoes.

These protective measures include adding extra nails to roof coverings and using tie-down straps to connect the roof more securely to walls. Also, when constructed according to the areas’ building codes, Nashville and Franklin, TN roofing will have a better chance of standing up against these devastating twisters.

Fortunately, many tornadoes that hit Tennessee, such as those reported in November, do not have the kind of extreme strength that leads to widespread devastation. Still, most of them are strong enough to damage roofing and other parts of the home; and when this happens, immediate Nashville roof repair and Franklin roof repair by reputable roofing companies, such as Professional Roofing Contractors, have to be conducted to prevent any damage from deteriorating further. Likewise, a repair or replacement may be the best solution to incorporate the necessary measures needed to improve a roof’s resistance to tornadoes.
